YouTube is busy developing a first batch of original content for its highly popular YouTube Kids platform. The YouTube Kids channel was born two years ago and has since racked up more than 30 billion in-app views. Some 8 million active viewers engage each week with its mix of DIY tutorials, language learning, scientific experiments, magic tricks and animated shows.
And YouTube is looking to shortly place YouTube Kids on smart TVs. The dedicated app will soon be available for download to a number of Internet-connected LG and Samsung Smart TVs.
On the original programming front, the company has commissioned content from four YouTube creators – animator DanTDM, Joe and Cody of TheAtlanticCraft Minecraft channel, tween music act L2M, and fruit slicers Fruit Ninja.
The series, set to launch in the spring, are:
DanTDM Creates A Big Scene featuring DanTDM and his animated friends seeking to keep their new show on the road
The Kings of Atlantis, an epic series following Joe and Cody into underwater city of Atlantis as they seek to reclaim their royal birthrights
Hyperlinked starring L2M follows five girls aiming to create their own website by girls, for girls, navigating tween issues on the way
Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force featuring a messy secret service and a raft of Juice Jitsu skills.
