iPhones are too expensive in India and sales of the device are on the slide. Apple shifted 3m smartphones in the market in 2017, but the total is set to fall to 2m this year, according to Counterpoint Research. And over half of sales will come from cheaper older models, which isn’t good news for Apple.
This decline comes at a time when smartphone sales have hit an all-time high in India – third-quarter shipments were up 25% on the previous quarter. Top-selling brand was Xiaomi, ahead of Samsung.
The top five brands captured 77% share of the total smartphone market during the quarter – and Apple wasn’t one of them.
