Does anyone care for Libra?
The European Commission is asking Facebook and its partners in the Libra cryptocurrency project to address a number of issues relating to financial stability, money laundering and data privacy. A number of European countries, France in particular, have come out against Libra, viewing it as posing a risk to the national currency sovereignty.
And in the US, Maxine Waters, chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, has said development should be stopped while Congress looks to investigate the cryptocurrency. The Federal Reserve has called Libra a "serious concern".
The Libra initiative originally had 28 backers but support has been wavering. Recently, PayPal withdraw completely from the project while Mastercard and Visa are believed to be having second thoughts.
