An entrepreneurial city for women
Which city is the best location for female entrepreneurs? That would be New York, ahead of the San Francisco Bay area, according to Dell research on high-potential women entrepreneur metros.
The cities are ranked across five key characteristics – capital, technology, talent, culture and markets. And these pillars are organised into two groups, namely operating environment and enabling environment.
London is the highest-ranked non-US city, while Stockholm, Singapore and Toronto also make the top 10. Johannesburgis the leading African location is 28th spot, ahead of Nairobi (33rd).
“According to extensive data and analysis, when barriers to women entrepreneurship are removed, there is a dramatic uplift in a city’s economic prospects,” said Cris Turner, vice president of government affairs at Dell.
The company says its research offers insights on what cities on the list can learn from one-another and encourages political action to attract and support women entrepreneurs at the local level.
