Taking on the tech majors

The US Justice Department’s antitrust division has opened a review into the tech majors. While not naming names, the DOJ says the move has been prompted by widespread concerns among both consumers and the business community about “search, social media, and some retail services online”.

The investigation will examine whether Big Tech firms are “engaging in practices that have reduced competition, stifled innovation, or otherwise harmed consumers.”

The agency says it will act “appropriately to seek redress” should it detect any lawbreaking.
