Enter the drone airline
The US authorities have given UPS full approval to operate a drone airline. The move, a first for drones, enables the shipper to build on its current delivery offerings in hospital campuses, though residential deliveries aren’t on the cards yet.
The certification, granted to the UPS Flight Forward unit, means the company can fly an unlimited number of drones with an unlimited number of remote operators in command. A drone and its cargo can now exceed 55 pounds and also fly at night.
Flight Forward will now expand its services to multiple medical facilities and join forces with manufacturers to develop new delivery drones.
