Spotify edges out labels
In a move set to rattle the music industry, Spotify is allowing artists to upload songs directly to its platform without record labels. “You've told us time and time again that sharing your work with the world should be easier,” the streamer said in a blog post.
Artists will get paid when users stream their music on Spotify and recording royalties be deposited in bank account automatically each month. There will be reports of how much streams are earning next to the other insights already available on from Spotify for Artists.
“Spotify doesn’t charge you any fees or commissions no matter how frequently you release music,” the company adds.
