The machines have analysed the World Cup and have come up with a likely winner. The Technical University of Dortmund have deployed machine learning, along with a statistical method known as a random-forest approach, to identify the most likely champions.
And so Spain is the most likely to win the tournament at this stage.
However, the situation changes as the World Cup progresses. Because, if Germany makes it through to the quarter-final stage, then the holders become the favourites. That’s because Germany has tougher earlier games than Spain and so faces a bigger challenge… but if the Mannschaft gets to the later stages it then stands a much better chance of winning.
