Instagram gets its first album
Jaden Smith has become the first artist to release an album on Instagram. The moves comes only weeks after Instagram’s launch of a long-form video service tagged IGTV, upping viewing time from one minute to 10 minutes, while also enabling artists to post 60-minute videos.
Smith, who has 9.3m Instagram followers, has made Syre: The Electric Album available exclusively on the social network. The release comprises five free-of-charge ‘electric’ versions of tracks from last year’s Syre album.
IGTV content has more visibility than standard videos on Instagram as it is played in vertical format on mobile devices. The company is targeting young listeners consuming large amounts of mobile video.
