Facebook has dropped plans to unveil its home voice-activated speakers in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data crisis. The hardware was to have been shoved into the spotlight at the F8 developer event in May, but the social network is now reviewing the kit and its personal data implications.
Facebook has also been developing a home video chat device with a large screen and smart camera that the company believes could become a new product category. The kit, created by Facebook’s Building 8 lab, won’t now be going to F8 either.
The big question for Facebook is, how willing are consumers to let the social network loose in the home with its devices given their data concerns?
