Big tech just doesn't care
While a huge majority of US consumers say that smartphones and Internet technology have improved their lives, they also have significant concerns about tech’s social impact, particularly regarding data security, the gap between rich and poor and job opportunities, according to research from Vrge Strategies.
And consumers do not think that policymakers are keeping up with the pace of technological change and overwhelmingly believe that government should do more to regulate the Internet and other advanced technologies.
Plus they certainly don’t trust don't trust tech outfits with sensitive information. Two-thirds would not give such companies highly personal information to reduce their daily commute, for example, the same fraction that would not share medical records or other personal health information with tech firms in order to improve your healthcare, and the same proportion that says it would not want to live in a smart city.
Also, 55% of consumers believe that technology companies don't care about how their products impact society.
