Three-fifths of US consumers don’t trust Facebook with their personal data, while pretty much the same proportion believe social media platforms do more to divide the society than unite it.
And three-quarters think allowing social media companies to amass and use their data in return for free services is not at all a good deal, according to a NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey.
There’s plenty of dissonance here, though. While, over 80% of respondents think social media sites waste their time, almost 70% go to such platforms at least once a day.
And though a majority are positive about what technological advances will bring over the next five years, almost half believe government should break up the likes of Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook into smaller entities.
