The beauty of the make-up app
Beauty giant L’Oréal has acquired Canadian tech outfit ModiFace a developer of try-on apps. The company provides brands with 3D virtual make-up along with diagnosis services using proprietary tech that tracks facial features and colour.
ModiFace will be part of L’Oréal’s Digital Services Factory, a dedicated platform for developing new digital services.
L’Oréal launched an accelerator programme at Paris’ Station F innovation last autumn and is planning to work with up to 20 companies this, providing them with strategic mentoring and operational support. The company has been recruiting start-ups innovating in cosmetics, those with capabilities in augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning and social commerce, and early-stage companies working on digital beauty services.
LVMH earlier this week launched an accelerator for luxury-tech companies, La Maison des Start-up, at Station F.
