Amazon's double food stamp boost
Amazon will start accepting grocery orders from US customers using food stamps. The $70bn Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will roll out following as initial eight-state trial, with the online retail giant set to become a major beneficiary.
Of course, low-paid Amazon will become beneficiaries too, given that many of the company’s workers will be eligible for SNAP assistance. According to state data, around one in 10 Amazon employees in Pennsylvania don’t earn enough money to buy groceries. In Arizona, an astounding one in three workers is eligible for SNAP support to buy food. Which amount to pretty decent subsidies for Amazon.
