Trump takes fake mainstream

Over 90% of US Republicans believe that traditional news outlets knowingly report fake new at least sometimes, according to an Axios poll.

When it comes to checking out the news, roughly half of both Republicans and Democrats say they use sources they trust. However, Democrats are more likely to take additional steps to verify what they’ve read than Republicans, according to the survey.

Close to half of Democrats say they use a fact-checking website  such as FactCheck.org or Snopes.com for verification compared to 30% of Republicans.

In case you hadn’t worked it out already, Axios says ‘President Trump has exacerbated the scepticism amongst hardline conservatives with polarising language and tweets about the mainstream media being fake news’.
