Packages go eBike
UPS is rolling out an eBike for package delivery in Pittsburgh as part of its Rolling Laboratory initiative which tests alternative fuels and advanced vehicles. The eBike boasts battery-powered electric motors able to cover longer distances than traditional bikes, carry heavy loads and navigate hills and other terrain.
The logistics giant says it will evaluate the reliability, design, integration into the city’s infrastructure and acceptance of the vehicle. The plan is to operate the eBike in Pittsburgh on a regular route year-round.
UPS announced earlier this year that it plans to pick up 25% of its energy requirements from renewable sources by 2025. The company also says one-quarter of new vehicles acquired each year will use alternative fuels.
