Fly Dubai

Daimler is heading up a €25 million funding round in German start-up Volocopter, which is looking to provide a flying taxi service in Dubai. The company is joining forces with the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai to conduct initial trials of its autonomous air cab in the fourth quarter.

Dubai is aiming to handle 25 % of all of its passenger travel using autonomous transportation by as early as 2030.

The company has lured experienced execs such as CEO Florian Reuter (ex-Siemens) and CTO Jan-Hendrik Boelens (formerly Airbus Helicopters), and plans to put the first licensed Volocopter on the market next year.
