VW gets an electric surge

Electric car laggard Volkswagen is suddenly looking to up EV production. The company plans to increase output at its eastern Germany Zwickau plant and is considering adding EVs to the mix at Emden in the northwest.

Reports suggest VW might start making electric vans in Hanover. VW also aims to open two Chinese electric-car production plants starting in 2020.

Last month, the company bullishly said that by 2020 “we will have cars that can do all that Teslas can do, but at half the price”.
