Taxis take to the skies
The global market for intra-city passenger drones is set to hit $21bn by 2035 – 2025 will be a $1bn market for passenger drones with an installed base of 500 units, rising to $4bn in 2030 and to $21bn in 2035 when there will be an installed base of 15,000 drones, according to Porsche Consulting.
The Asia-Pacific region is expected to account for around 45% of this market by 2035, with an installed base of 6,750 units, ahead of the Americas (4,500 units). Europe and the rest of the world will have 3,750 passenger drones.
Porsche Consulting expects starting and landing infrastructure for drones in the city developing in three phases, largely due to the sizeable infrastructure costs involved. Vertical mobility services will initially start at existing hubs such as airports and railway stations.
“We envision around five such vertiports in major hubs, such as airports and hotel rooftops, accommodating an active, installed base of around 120 aircraft,” it adds.
