Brexit pushes UK firms to Germany

There has been a close-to 40% increase in the number of British firms moving to Germany since the Brexit referendum vote in mid- 2016. And 168 UK companies made the federal republic home to all or some of their operations last year alone, according to state development agency German Trade and Invest (GTAI).

β€œIt's particularly noteworthy that never have so many British companies settled in Germany as they did last year,” says GTAI, adding that almost half of those cited Brexit as the reason for their relocation.

The German economy returned to growth in the first quarter of 2019 –  following six months of stagnation – on the back of higher household spending and strong construction activity.
