German auto equipment maker Sortimo is planning what it calls the world’s largest EV charging station on the A8 Autobahn between Stuttgart and Munich. The site, near the company’s HQ in Zusmarshausen, will boast 144 charging points, among them two dozen superfast chargers, with the capacity to handle 4,000 EVs a day.

Green-tinged Sortimo is looking to lean on surplus renewable energy picked up from local companies and homes.

e-takeout: Sortimo’s ambitios plan is just what laggard EV market Germany needs. The government thinks so too and is pumping €300m into the project. Also savvily in the mix here are retail and food locations, as well as a conference centre and offices to hire.
