Time to standardise EV charging

UK parliament could make a move towards standardising electric vehicle charging. The proposed Electric Vehicles (Standardised Recharging) bill is seeking to introduce uniform connectors and payment methods at public charging points.

The goal of the bill is for every car to be able to recharge at every charging point, a change that we will allow more people to switch to electric vehicles, according to the parliamentary sponsor, who also points out that car owners have to go to great lengths and significant expense to be able to charge their cars publicly.

The conservative MP Edmund King adds, “Mobile phones, cameras and all manner of computer accessories have individualised ports on the devices themselves, but they all connect to a USB port at the power end. We should apply this to electric vehicles and create a universal standard for car chargers.”
