Brexit slams UK research funding

The share of EU research funding heading to the UK has dropped sharply since the Brexit vote, according to government metrics. The UK snagged just 13.4% of the €12bn available under the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation initiative from September 2016 until March this year. That’s down from the 15.6% the country picked up since the programme launched in September 2016.

Last year, Universities UK raised the alarm after a downturn in success at winning money from sources such as the European Research Council and urged universities to clarify to researchers that they were still eligible for money, reports Times Higher Education.
