Cash for political crypto
The newly launched Indie Party is aiming to create a new era in politics via a political cryptocurrency. The community- and tech-focused movement, which was unveiled at SWXW last week, says it will lean on blockchain technology to make the campaign finance system more transparent and engaging to voters.
And the Indie Party has the cash for crypto, having raised $6.5m in January inside 72 hours to help create the Indie Token cryptocurrency, along with the technologies and tools it says will help power the campaigns of candidates who want to run outside the two-party system.
"Indie Tokens cannot be purchased," says Indie Party founder Jonathan Jenkins, a former tech company entrepreneur. "They can only be earned by engaging in the political process in support of the Indie Party movement – by volunteering your time to build the Party, by making a donation to the campaign of an Indie candidate or a PAC, by recruiting your friends and neighbours to join the Indie Party and support Indie candidates.
