Tesco charges electric

UK retail giant Tesco is partnering with VW to deploy over 2,400 electric vehicle charging points across 600 of its stores by 2021. Customers will be able to opt to charge their electric cars via a standard 7kW charger for free, or to pay a fee for a rapid 50kW charge.

The two companies claim the project will deliver the country's largest network of free charging points.

“We want to be the leading EV energy provider and to support our customers with more sustainable solutions,” s says Tesco.

e-takeout: It’s no surprise that the supermarket chain is going electric given that it is the UK’s top fuel supplier. Expect further deployments from other major retailers in the market.
