Spotify had 217m active users at end-March, up from 173m at the same time last year. The music streamer was able to boast 100m paid subscribers, compared to 75m 12 months ago.
Around 40% of paid subscribers were in Europe, with North America accounting for 30% of the company’s premium subs base. Spotify is forecasting as many as 110m paid subscribers for the end of the second quarter, and up to 127m subscribers by the end of 2019.
Rival Apple Music is believed to have just half the number of paid subscribers. However, In February, Apple Music had more paid subs in the US than Spotify with 28m vs 26m.
