Puma partners with Lumo to develop AI-powered biometrics for athletes

Puma is partnering with Lumo Bodytech to develop a new Puma-branded product based on Lumo’s artificial intelligence MotionScience coaching platform. To date, the two partners have yet to disclose what the new sports item will be but the Puma Innovation Team is likely to come with some kind of AI device that will improve users’ biomechanics.

Lumo has already leant on the MotionScience platform and its machine-learning capabilities to power its proprietary equipment, including the Lumo Lift posture and activity coach and the Lumo Run coaching device targeting runners, which measures the likes of cadence, braking and bounce, along with pelvic rotation and drop.

Puma says the tie-up is a natural, strategic move towards next-generation connected health and fitness products that go beyond simple trackers to provides ‘deep insights into human movements’.
