Pepsico dumps workers for snacks
Pepsico is “relentlessly automating” as it aims to restructure the company and lay off a good chunk of its workforce. In fact, much of the $2.5bn earmarked for that plan will go on severance pay for workers discarded for robots
Automation will apparently make the company more capable, leaner, more agile and less bureaucratic. CEO Ramon Laguarta says cutting jobs will drive down costs and enable investment in solutions that deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness.
And the cash generated will enable the firm to capture a greater share of ‘consumption occasions’ – snacks to you and me. Here we are talking indulgent through to functional, social to individual, value to premium, and “across dayparts”, according to Laguarta, who clearly chows heavily on corporate speak.
