News UK has partnered with video-ads company Unruly and product innovation outfit Fluxx to launch the News UK Startup Lab. The initiative, which will be housed at Unruly’s London HQ, will kick off with an accelerator programme for a half-dozen small firms able to benefit from linking up with News UK and leverage the publisher’s journalism, data, products and expertise.
“We have a depth of content that informs, entertains and inspires,” says News UK, publisher of titles such as The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun. “What could you do with it? Could you bring it to a new audience, create a new platform, or offer a new service? Or could you make use of the deep expertise and influence we have in these areas?”
Successful Startup Lab applicants will get four weeks working with a specialist lean product design and customer research team, research and product testing opportunities with News UK’s daily audience of 12 million, mentoring from successful entrepreneurs and subject matter experts, up to £5,000 in cash, plus the Opportunity for Series A funding from the publisher.
