Were Tidal numbers fake?
Jay-Z-owned music streamer Tidal is being investigated over allegations of inflated subscriber numbers. Norwegian agency Okokrim is looking into goings on at Tidal after complaints from local artist associations concerned about loss of income arising from possible streaming data manipulation.
Tidal was originally a Norwegian outfit, having been launched in 2014 by Schibsted-owned Aspiro. Jay-Z acquired the streamer in 2015 and rejigged it as an artist-owned premium service. US carrier Sprint picked up a 33% stake two years later.
Jay-Z previously accused Schibsted of overstating subscriber metrics at the time the deal was completed.
