Music start-up Jukeboxy is claiming a world-first for Alexa voice control. The company has rolled out its Jukeboxy Music for Business service on Alexa-enabled devices, allowing the likes of hotels, restaurants, spas, bars and stores to play ambient tracks for customers.

Alexa being Alexa that means businesses can change the music stream with simple voice commands.

"Imagine a restaurant owner getting ready for the busy lunch hour and who has so much to deal with,” says “Yaprak Unsalan, COO of Jukeboxy. “Spending time on a computer or app to select the right music will be a hassle in such cases. Now they can start the music by simply saying, 'Alexa, start Jukeboxy'. They can also say, 'Alexa, play Top 100', or 'Alexa, play Oldies' anytime of the day to change the music as the atmosphere changes."

Jukeboxy costs $24.95 per month and offers discounts across multiple location discounts to reduce music licensing costs.

Streaming update: The worldwide paying audience for music streaming will total almost 1.2bn listeners by 2030, with emerging markets accounting for two-thirds of users, according to the latest Music In The Air report from Goldman Sachs. And Spotify is set remain the top streamer with a one-third global market share.
