Check in to the tech hotel

Chinese e-commerce outfit JD.com has purchased the Jade Palace Hotel in Beijing for $400mn. The company is looking to transform the space into an innovation showcase.

The Jade Palace Hotel is situated in Beijing’s Haidian District, close to universities and to the huge Zhongguancun tech hub, which is home to a number of Chinese unicorns.

The move follows the opening of Alibaba’s FlyZoo Hotel in the company’s hometown of Hangzhou. The ‘hotel of the future’ features artificial intelligence, voice command technology, smart home solutions and robots.
