Last week we took a look into Intel’s tech forays into multiple sports, this week, for the start of the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s championship, its about IBM and Wimbledon. And it's the artificial intelligence platform Watson that will help guide fans to the best matches, as well as come up with video highlights and performance metrics.
The AI system will auto-curate highlights based on analysis of crowd noise, player movements and match data to help simplify the highlight video production process and focus on key moments in matches.
In addition, the SlamTracker with Cognitive Keys to the Match is a cross-platform app providing real-time scores, stats and insights for matches in progress, including the pace-of-play, serve placement spread or baseline proximity. Real-time data will be integrated from multiple sources including courtside statisticians, chair umpires, radar guns, ball positions, player locations, plus Twitter for social sentiment.
“Cognitive computing is the next revolution in sports technology [and] is now pervasive, from driving the fan experience, to providing efficiency for digital editors to IT operations,” IBM says.
