Ford has snapped up electric scooter outfit Spin. According to reports, the automaker may have splashed out as much as $100m on the two-year old company which operates its scooter service in a number of cities and on college campuses.

Spin has a deal in place with manufacturer Ninebot, owned by Segway, to take 30,000 scooters a month through to the end of 2018.

Ford clearly likes the appeal of two wheels. Last month, the company began a scooter rental trial at Purdue University under the Jelly banner. The college says it is a ‘campus-wide research project on best practices for using e-scooters.’
