Facebook looks to social media subscriptions

Facebook is seriously examining the case for a subscription-based, advertising-free version of its social network. The current impetus comes from the company’s data privacy woes and a paid-for offering might well appeal to those who don’t like ads with their social media, nor the idea of Facebook sharing their data with third parties.

“The company has been receptive to changes that even a year ago would have been unthinkable, such as ranking news publishers by trustworthiness and allowing up-voting and down-voting on comments,” reports Bloomberg.
