While Europe is ahead of its goal of one charging station per 10 electric vehicles, the number of charging points will have to spike sharply to keep up with EV growth. Bloomberg New Energy Finance says it the European EV fleet to reach more than 30m by 2030.

The continent will add its 200,000th charge point this year, while the number of EVs is set to reach 2m in 2020. Germany, the Netherlands, France and the UK are ahead on EV infrastructure, with two-thirds of all charging points and 60% of the increase in stations since 2014.

Global sales of passenger electric vehicles rose 63% in 2018 to exceed 2m for the first time. And 1.45m were pure electric vehicles while the rest were plug-in hybrids.

BloombergNEF says it expects cost parity between EVs and fossil-fuel cars by 2025, providing an electric sales boost.
