Scoot electric

Deutsche Post DHL and Ford have unveiled their first joint vehicle in the shape of the StreetScooter Work XL electric van. The EV is essentially a scale-up of the German firm’s StreetScooter unit’s in-house vehicle.

The two companies are planning to produce 150 last-mile StreetScooter Work XLs by the year-end, with a target of 2,500 by the close of 2018. The vehicles, which will ply their trade on Deutsche Post DHL parcel delivery routes, have a range of 80-100 kms and each could save an estimated five tonnes of CO2 and 1,900 litres of diesel per year.

“It is the perfect vehicle for parcel deliveries in major cities and large urban areas, and will enable us to cope with the rising parcel volumes in an even more environmentally friendly and quieter manner,” says Jürgen Gerdes, board member at Deutsche Post DHL.
