Not content with leading Portugal in the World Cup in Russia next month, Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to move and shake in the world of television drama.

The Real Madrid star is executive producer on a Facebook-backed series following the fortunes of a girls football team in New York. The as-yet-unnamed programme will follow the fortunes of the team as well as exploring teenage life. It will be broadcast on Facebook Watch.

The show will be scripted by Memphis Beat creators Liz Garcia and Josh Harto for indie studio wiip, which is also working on another Faceboook series Queen America, featuring Catherine Zeta Jones.

Does Ronaldo have the experience to pull this off?

“In my free time, one of the things I like to do is to watch good television,” he says. “The story of my life has many similarities with the highs and lows the girls varsity soccer team will face in the series.”

Wait, there’s more.

Ronaldo is also working animation specialists Graphic India to develop a new animated series, Striker Force 7, which will star a cartoon version of he footballer.

"In the same way football connects cultures and people around the world, I believe great animated characters and heroes can do the same,” Ronaldo says.
