High-end Chinese electric car maker Nio has launched a battery-swap network. Nio, China’s answer to Tesla, has opened 18 swap stations in 14 service areas on the G4 Expressway in Guangdong province, and has plans for further swap points along major networks across the country in 2019.

Owners of the Nio ES8 SUV will get free lifetime use of battery swap service, the company says.

Image-conscious Nio recently unveiled its first clothing collection together with fashion designer Hussein Chalayan. The Neo Extreme line comprises hoodies t-shirts and dresses inspired by the EP9 EV, which is the world's fastest electric car, according to Nio.

The collection is an element of the Nio Life design and lifestyle brand launched in April, as part of Nio’s efforts to ‘shape a joyful lifestyle’.

Nio dealerships aren’t traditional dealerships but Nio Houses, club-style locations for Nio owners and prospectives to socialise. Nio “is not just a car company, it is a lifestyle and a brand that is ready to disrupt and the implications for the stock price cannot be ignored,” according to Citron Research.
