Airport startups take off
California now has an airport start-up hub. The new Innovation Lab has opened for business in an old terminal at San Diego International Airport, aiming to help firms break into the aviation industry.
Start-ups can develop their concepts in a real-world airport environment that boasts ticket counters and a bag carousel… but no passengers. The accelerator programme will be home to five companies for 16 weeks:
AirporTour is a developer of interactive airport guides
Ciari Guitars is kiosk creating a foldable, travel guitar so passengers can play music
Hohn is building sleep pods for 30-minute to four-hour periods
InnoTech Systems has a team of airport robot guides
Nuvve is developing vehicle-to-grid solutions at airports using excess EV energy
