Renewable flight

British Airways is partnering with renewable fuels outfit Velocys to develop a series of plants to convert household waste into renewable jet fuel to power its airline fleet. The first facility will take hundreds of thousands of tonnes of household waste a year, including nappies and plastic food containers, and convert it into clean-burning, sustainable fuel.

BA says the jet fuel produced at the first plant will deliver more than 60% greenhouse gas reduction versus conventional fossil fuel, delivering 60,000 tonnes of CO2 savings each year.
