Music in the Air(bnb)
Airbnb is pushing into the music space. The sharing economy giant has launched its Airbnb Concert platform offering custom live music events in offbeat venues such as recording studios, churches and wine bars.
Airbnb says it is setting up the Airbnb Concerts service in opposition to the music festival experience of watching a live music performance with an audience of thousands.
The offering has been rolled out initially in 25 cities, including the likes of San Francisco, New York City, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Paris and Sydney, with Airbnb looking to up the number of locations to 100 by the year-end.
"There's significant value that we can provide in bringing audiences to local artists around the world," Airbnb head of music James Beshara told Billboard.
Airbnb Concert looks to be an extension of the Music Experiences initiative the company launched early last year offering its users access to pop-up gigs and underground music sessions.
