How Stan picks up Gatwick cars

London’s Gatwick Airport is looking to launch a three-month-long trial with robot valet parking services this summer. Users will be able to take their cars into drop-off zone close to Gatwick where a robot will then transport them to a designated parking space.

The robot – named ‘Stan’ after the French technology maker Stanley Robotics - doesn’t drive the cars but, rather, picks them up and slots them into place parked together tightly.

Stans have already been trialled elsewhere, including at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris where Stanley reports that the response was generally pretty positive.
