Facebook probes Brexit

Facebook is extending its investigation into possible Russian interference in the UK Brexit vote in 2016. The move comes after the social network had earlier insisted that such meddling was minimal.

"We are committed to making all reasonable efforts to establish whether or not there was coordinated activity similar to that which was found in the US and will report back to you as soon as the work has been completed," Facebook’s policy director Simon Milner said in a letter to a parliamentary panel looking into the use of social media to disseminate misinformation during the Brexit campaign.

Facebook needs a few weeks to complete its review and has asked the authorities for official intelligence assessments to support the process.
