Bigger bikes

China's leading bike-sharing companies, Ofo and Mobike, are in merger talks as the dockless bike sector struggles to turn a profit. The third-largest provider, Bluegogo, went bust just two weeks ago having deployed 700,000 two-wheelers and having burnt through $90 million in funding.

Ofo and Mobike have the backing of Alibaba and Tencent, respectively, and the online giants are looking to merge the two firms to cut costs and edge towards profitability. The segment has already suffered a number of business casualties and dockless bikes litter the streets of large Chinese cities.
