Boeing goes unmanned
Boeing is investing in autonomous flight technology outfit Near Earth Autonomy via its Boeing HorizonX venture capital arm. The US-based outfit is a spin-off from Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute and develops software and sensor technology to enable aircraft to inspect, map and survey terrain and infrastructure, as well as transport cargo autonomously.
Boeing and Near Earth Autonomy also announced a partnership to explore future applications such as urban mobility for emerging markets.
Boeing earlier this month acquired unmanned air vehicles maker Aurora Flight Sciences which is working with Uber to develop electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft for the Uber Elevate Network.
