Sub-par AI

Google’s artificial intelligence is no smarter than a six-year-old child, according to research published by Chinese academics. However, the researchers ranked Google first out of 50 different AI systems, ahead of those from Baidu and Microsoft's Bing. It also concluded that Google’s AI was twice as clever as Apple’s Siri virtual assistant.

In addition, the research found that AlphaGo, developed by Alphabet/Google to successfully play the Chinese board game Go, has an intelligence level below that of humans.

“Although artificial intelligence is currently one of the most interesting areas in scientific research, the potential threats posed by emerging AI systems remain a source of persistent controversy,” the study says.
