Tasking for Ikea
Flat-pack specialist Ikea looks set to provide its customers with more DIY helping hands with the acquisition of US-based domestic-chore outfit TaskRabbit. The latter will remain an independent unit within the group but Ikea is set to link up its shoppers with TaskRabbit’s estimated 60,000 ‘gig economy’ workers. The two already have a furniture-assembly tie-up in the UK.
TaskRabbit has a partnership in place with Amazon and that will continue once the acquisition has been completed. Amazon launched its Amazon Home Services unit offering professional services such as house cleaning, plumbing and electrical work, plus furniture assembly, back in 2015.
