Dubai has conducted a test flight for the world’s first autonomous airborne taxi service. The cab, developed by German firm Volocopter, can fly without remote control guidance for up to 30 minutes.
Starting next year, commercial passengers will use a smartphone app to order a Volocopter to pick them up at the nearest ‘Voloport’ and take them autonomously to their destination.
Dubai is aiming to handle 25 % of all of its passenger travel using autonomous transportation by as early as 2030.
Already onboard is German car-making giant Daimler which headed up a recent €25 million funding round in Volocopter.
