US multichannel network AwesomenessTV has unveiled a raft of content initiatives to boost engagement with the Gen-Z audience. Among those moves are a new feature film, an original TV series plus the rollout of a news platform, Awesomeness News, targeting its favoured demographic.

AwesomenessTV, which has over 5 million subscribers to its YouTube channel, will release its You Get Me movie on Netflix in mid-June via the Awesomeness Films unit, with the company billing it as a ‘teen version of Fatal Attraction’.

The media outfit is also launching high school drama series This Is Summer, together with clothing brand Hollister, on YouTube. The cast will sing both original and cover songs which will be packaged as a This Is Summer soundtrack for steaming on Spotify, as well as for playing in Hollister stores.

The new Awesomeness News service will provide content with Gen Z optics based on ‘socially conscious’ issues, such as the environment and social justice.

How might that news coverage look? According to a recent Gen Z report commissioned by AwesomenessTV, “having had access to the Internet since they could walk and talk, Gen Z has seen the whole world from their screens. Teens today increasingly see themselves within the context of a larger global collective and are thinking about their place [in the world] as well as how to make their mark within it.”

AwesomenessTV maintains that Gen Z has learned how to use the platforms at its disposal to get its voice heard to enact change…
